Potpourri 4 - L. Monique

L. Monique is a spoken word artist/ producer and founder of Smokin' Spoken Wordz Productions. This native New Yorker, took up permanent residence in the town of Bethel in early November 2000. As a free-lance writer, she has had articles published in community newspapers, magazines and journals. Her poetry has appeared in many of the same, including numerous Newsletters, Anthologies, Internet Boards & E-Zines. Often featured in Sullivan County Democrat Newspaper, she ;s also a regular contributor to StreetNews Newspaper (NY s largest & oldest newspaper for and by the homeless).

L. Monique has performed at such notable SC community events as, The Cornell Cooperative Extension Awards Dinner, Kwanzaa 7 Group Functions and the first County-Wide Senior Forum. She 's a regular guest of Sullivan County 's WJFF radio station and has produced events at The Oracle Bookstore, Twin Acres B & B and Sullivan County Community College. This WordzSmith is also currently using her artistic abilities to empower youth through her participation in the Catskill IDEA 's "Kids Act After School Program". Authoring 2 self published volumes of poetry so far ("Women & Children...First" & "What Butches Are For...") and one autobiographical novella (pending release), she continues to be available for public and private readings and events. As winner of The Vault 's 2000 Cutting Edge Artist Award, L. Monique 's poetic talents can easily be categorized into 5 separate genres - all delivered prolifically and leaving audiences enlightened, entertained and wanting more.
